5k Race for Ralya, Haslett
Haslett, Mich.- After a day of cold and seemingly non-stop rain Saturday, runners pulled up to Ralya Elementary on Sunday, October 14 hoping for a little warmth. Not only did the rain hold off and some heat roll in, but sponsors were on hand to support the event and raise money for this local elementary school. The third annual Race for Ralya has raised thousands of dollars in the past that have been put towards books, gym equipment, field trips, improved technology and more.
Alpha & Omega Stove and Sweep was on hand to support the cause in addition to spreading safety awareness for the fast approaching burning season. “This is a tremendous opportunity for Alpha & Omega to inform families of safe practices and proper maintenance for their fireplaces and chimneys,” said Sean Stead, marketing director of Alpha & Omga. “The fact that we could share information with some great people out here today while also supporting a worthy cause really made it a home run.”
The event was well timed as it coincided with National Fire Prevention Month. “This is the time of year when temperatures are dipping and people are beginning to use their fireplace,” explained Dustin Taylor, manager of Alpha & Omega. “If we can inform people of the importance of proper preparation, we feel that we will be having a positive impact on this community for years to come.”
The National Fire Protection Association recommends annual chimney inspection and cleanings to protect against hazards such as house fires, creosote buildup, and carbon monoxide poisoning. In 2011, firefighters in the U.S. responded to 370,000 home structure fires which caused over 2,000 deaths and nearly $7 billion in damages.
In addition to level one and two chimney inspection and cleanings, Alpha & Omega offers masonry work, a wide selection of wood and gas stoves, and digital fireplace design. They are located in Williamston, MI. More information can be found on their website, www.alphaomegachimney.com or by calling 517-655-8515

Sean Stead, Marketing Director for Alpha & Omega, organized the social media campaign and attended the event with his australian shepherd/border collie mix, Izzy. “We were amazed by people’s willingness to share our message to help support this fantastic organization,” said Stead, “We put (the facebook post) up hoping to increase recognition for the event. It seemed like every time I logged in we had 10 or 15 new likes. At that point I thought, ‘OK, we can really make a difference with this.’”
